Fighting Fire to Save Lives

The job of a firefighter is not an easy job because it has all the risks and dangers involved when they respond to emergencies. Anyone can become a firefighter because some state requires only few qualifications in hiring firefighters.

The basic qualification includes: meeting residence requirements, passing civil service exam, and pass physical tests. Once completing the basic qualifications needed, one will become a probationary firefighter. To become a fully pledge firefighter, one needs to pass in a basic firefighter training and complete requirements needed by the department.

Others state requires one to go to college to become a firefighter. Skills and education required to become a firefighter is easily learned in school especially when it is facilitated well. That is why some state encourage everyone who wants to become a fire man to take a course on fire fighting.

Courses offered for fire fighters are available in many colleges . The education needed to become a firefighter is usually a 2-year degree on Fire technology. The classes to take to become a fire fighter includes: the basics of fire protection, technology safety, fire behavior, public education and physical education subjects. Physical Education is needed because a firefighter must be fit in order to respond well in emergency situations. Students are also encouraged to join as a volunteer in the fire department so that they will have experience in the real field.

When an education for fire fighters is acquired, application to the fire department is now eligible. Once a fireman, trainings are constantly provided to enhance skills and knowledge further. Trainings that are important for fire fighters are: Emergency Medical Procedures, Disaster Preparedness, Basic Life Support, etc. Fire fighters are not only meant to extinguish fire. They are to save lives so they must know how to do basic life saving techniques.

The work of a fire fighter needs proper skills and education. Mere trainings and passing state exams are not enough. It is good that one takes a good course in fire fighting in order to learn many about fire and emergency situations. Again, fire fighting is not merely about extinguishing fire but it is also in protecting everyone from it. Last, the very important work of a fire fighter is to save other people’s lives.
